The mom and dad charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of their 11-month-old baby took a plea deal in Scioto County Common Pleas Court and are both expected to serve about three years in prison.
Michaela Hupp and Robert Filius have both been in the Scioto County Jail for nearly two years.
They were arrested back in February of 2022 for the 2021 death of their child.
The death of the baby became one of the first cases investigated by the newly formed Scioto County Special Victims Unit.
When autopsy results came back, and police went looking for them, they fled to West Virginia, where officers took them into custody on charges of involuntary manslaughter endangering children, possession of a fentanyl-related compound, aggravated possession of drugs, and being a fugitive from justice.
The pair have had many court appearances in the past two years, but back in November, the involuntary manslaughter charge was dropped and both pleaded guilty to endangering children and possession of fentanyl.
Both were sentenced to almost 5 years in prison with 2 years credit for time served. They are currently waiting to be transferred to prison.
