WANTED FOR KIDNAPPING & STRANGULATION: NC DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SUSPECT SHOT AFTER KENTUCKY TRAFFIC STOP

Brooks Janzen Plemmons

A multi-state manhunt ended in gunfire Tuesday afternoon when Lexington police confronted a North Carolina fugitive accused of brutal domestic violence — and armed to the teeth.

Authorities say Brooks Janzen Plemmons, 40, was critically wounded after officers attempted a traffic stop in Lexington, touching off an officer-involved shooting now under investigation.

Plemmons remains in critical condition at Albert B. Chandler Hospital.

No officers were hurt.

But the list of charges chasing him across state lines? That’s where this story gets dark.

🔥 A VIOLENT TRAIL FROM NORTH CAROLINA TO KENTUCKY

Brooks Janzen Plemmons

Investigators with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office say the case began with a domestic violence report involving a victim treated at a Winston-Salem hospital.

Over several terrifying days — between January 30 and February 2 — detectives say Plemmons allegedly:

  • Strangled the victim
  • Kidnapped them
  • Fired a gun into an occupied home
  • Blocked emergency calls
  • Threatened with a firearm
  • And did it all as a convicted felon illegally in possession of a gun

He was wanted on a stack of serious felony warrants, including:

🚨 First-degree kidnapping
🚨 Felony assault by strangulation
🚨 Discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling
🚨 Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
🚨 Habitual misdemeanor assault
🚨 Interfering with emergency communications
🚨 Assault by pointing a gun

Investigators tracked him from Clemmons to Kentucky, where police finally located him.

🚓 TRAFFIC STOP TURNS INTO SHOOTING

Around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers with the Lexington Police Department attempted a traffic stop in Fayette County after learning Plemmons was wanted on violent felony charges out of North Carolina.

That’s when everything exploded.

Police say three officers discharged their weapons, striking Plemmons. A firearm was later recovered from his vehicle.

He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Now, the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team has taken over the investigation — standard procedure anytime officers fire their weapons.

💬 THE BOTTOM LINE FOR TRUE CRIME WATCHERS

This wasn’t a routine traffic stop.

This was the end of a violent domestic nightmare that allegedly stretched across days, cities, and state lines — involving kidnapping, strangulation, gunfire, and a desperate attempt to escape justice.

And while Plemmons lies in critical condition tonight, investigators in both Kentucky and North Carolina are still piecing together exactly what happened — and what comes next.
