👉 “Stanger Danger” is Fake News
According to U.S. data on child sexual abuse, approximately 34% of perpetrators are family members, including parents, siblings, and extended relatives. Of those, parents or parent-figures alone account for roughly 20–25% of cases. Another 55–60% of offenders fall into the category of trusted adults known to the child, such as teachers, coaches, clergy, neighbors, babysitters, and family friends. In contrast, only about 7–10% of child sexual abuse cases involve a stranger with no prior relationship to the victim. These statistics highlight that around 90% of children who are sexually abused are victimized by someone they know and trust.
