John Moore, 36, of South Webster now faces aggravated murder charges for the fatal shooting of his former girlfriend’s father two weeks ago.
The Scioto County Grand Jury returned indictments on counts of aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault, and having weapons under a disability against Moore.
The incident started when a woman called 9-1-1 to request assistance in retrieving her belongings from her ex’s home on Lick Run Lyra Road. She told 9-1-1 she’d changed the locks. Dispatch told her to call back to get set up with an escort, but she never did.
Shortly after, she called 9-1-1 to say that Moore had shot her father. She admitted her father, who had a CCW permit, had a holstered weapon with him but said he never drew it before Moore shot him in the yard.
Moore also called 9-1-1 and admitted he shot Morris, but he claimed it was because the man had threatened him earlier. Officers responded to the scene to detain Moore, and medics transported Morris to SOMC, and he was flown to a Columbus hospital by air ambulance, where he died from his injuries.
