A mother says she was blindsided when her young daughter revealed she’d been inappropriately touched by another child at daycare—and claims staff kept her in the dark.
According to her statement, the child told her on the evening of August 29 that a classmate had pulled down her pants and touched her. When the mother confronted the daycare and asked to review security footage, staff told her she could not view it because other children were captured in the recording.
The mother also told deputies she believes her daughter reported the incident to a staff member at the time, but no one from the daycare ever contacted her. Deputies documented her complaint and opened a report. The incident took place at a daycare in Lawrence County. Further details have not been release pending the outcome of the investigation.
The Responsibility of Daycare Workers
Child safety advocates emphasize that how adults respond in these moments is just as important as the incident itself. Daycare staff are legally and ethically required to:
Act immediately to stop inappropriate behavior.
Inform parents without delay if their child is involved.
Document the incident and report it when required by state regulations.
Ensure proper supervision to prevent situations like this in the first place.
Failing to communicate undermines parental trust and could expose the daycare to legal consequences. In Ohio, licensed centers are expected to maintain strict reporting standards when it comes to child safety.
The mother says she wants accountability and reassurance that her child—and others—will be safe going forward. The case remains under review.
