A Portsmouth man tragically lost his life following a motorcycle crash on State Route 73 in Scioto County on Wednesday afternoon. The accident occurred around 2:42 PM, near mile marker 14.
Joshua Lee Maxie, 48, was riding his 2018 Harley-Davidson motorcycle westbound when, for reasons still under investigation, he veered off the road. Maxie’s motorcycle struck a guardrail, and the impact of the crash caused serious injuries.
Emergency responders from the Union Township Fire Department, Union Township EMS, and Rush Township Fire Department rushed to the scene to provide immediate aid. Maxie was quickly transported by ambulance to the Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth. Unfortunately, despite all efforts to save him, Maxie succumbed to his injuries at the hospital shortly after arriving.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol, which is leading the investigation, was assisted by local fire and emergency personnel. At this time, it remains unclear what caused Maxie to lose control of his motorcycle, though authorities are piecing together details from the scene.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol has asked anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has further information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
