What started as a tense conversation quickly spiraled into shouting, accusations, and claims of threats between two men who say their feud has been building for a long time.
By the time deputies were called, both sides had their own version of what happened — and neither was backing down.
According to a report from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to County Road 33 to investigate a complaint involving two neighbors engaged in a verbal altercation.
The initial call reported that one man had been yelling and cursing at the other before returning to his home. While deputies were en route, the other party also called requesting law enforcement at his residence.
When a deputy arrived, one man said the incident was part of an ongoing dispute between the two. He explained he was working at a nearby industrial property when he encountered the other man near a fence line with water company employees.
He said the confrontation began after he questioned what was going on, leading to a heated argument where both men exchanged insults. At one point, he claimed the other man stepped close and “puffed his chest out,” making him feel like a physical fight might be about to happen. He provided a written statement and asked for a report to be filed.
The deputy then spoke with the second man at a nearby residence, who said he was on a right-of-way to access his property and had contacted the water company about a tap. He confirmed the argument but claimed the other man threatened to kill him during the confrontation. He also requested charges and provided a statement.
Investigators contacted a water company employee who witnessed the incident. The employee confirmed the two men were yelling and arguing but said he did not hear any threats involving killing. He did state that both men appeared to be threatening to fight and were talking over each other, making it difficult to determine exactly what was said.
Both statements were collected, and the report will be forwarded to the prosecutor for review.
