New Boston Police pulled off the traffic stop glow-up of the week on Friday, December 5th, after stopping a gray Honda Accord for the seemingly minor crime of improper display of a tag.
Turns out, that tag was the least of this guy’s problems.
When officers took a closer look, they hit the jackpot — not the Powerball kind, but the “oh wow, you’re definitely going to jail” kind.
Inside the car, police seized:
- Nearly $1,200 in cash
- A stolen handgun
- Drug paraphernalia & abuse instruments
- Suspected fentanyl
- Suspected methamphetamine
- A grab-bag assortment of prescription pills
Basically, everything except the “I swear these aren’t my pants” excuse.
Charges? Oh, there are plenty.
The driver, Justin Maxie, is now facing:
- Having a weapon under disability
- Receiving stolen property
- Possession of drugs
- Possession of criminal tools
- Improper display of a tag (yes, still counts!)
- No operator’s license
- Trafficking in drugs
New Boston police officers arrested Maxie and booked him into the Scioto County Jail. He was arraigned in Portsmouth Municipal Court on Monday morning, and a preliminary hearing is set for December 11.
Maxie is not new to the justice system. His past convictions include:
- Tampering with a coin machine (retro crime!)
- Theft
- Criminal trespass
…and previous arrests for drug trafficking.
New Boston PD’s “Still Life with Felony Charges”
Police posted a photo of the cash, drugs, and weapon spread out on a table like a very illegal yard sale. Social media loved it — because nothing says “Season’s Greetings” like a holiday display of seized narcotics.
The Lesson?
If your license plate isn’t properly displayed, maybe — just maybe — don’t keep:
- a stolen gun,
- a mini pharmacy,
- a scale,
- and enough fentanyl to shut down a bull elephant
in the vehicle.
New Boston PD stays winning.
