New details about the remarkable turnaround of beloved local fixture Greg Stevens
SCDN received many calls from concerned citizens wondering what had become of Greg Stevens. Though Stevens has been homeless, struggled with addiction, and had frequent contact with police, he was generally regarded as a very nice man with a very big mental health problem.
Stevens frequented businesses on Gallia Street, sometimes causing disturbances with his habit of collecting large amounts of trash in shopping carts and leaving it lying about.
When a body was discovered at an abandoned home last fall, his family rushed to the scene, terrified he was the victim. Fortunately, Stevens was located at one of his favorite haunts, the dumpster near Taco Bell.
When we broke the news that Greg was off the streets and doing better, dozens of people came forward with stories of how they had attempted to help Stevens over the years. Many employed him doing odd jobs, and others offered to get him into treatment programs, but sadly, Greg just wasn’t ready to get help.
The family who helped Greg has some forward on Facebook to share an update on his health and a message to his many concerned friends.
In a comment, Leah Marie said, “Greg is doing fine and is well he hasn’t drank any alcohol for a month now back on all his meds and doing excellent I’m his adopted daughter he cried for me to get him off the streets because he didn’t want to die there so that’s just what i did Greg has been in my family’s life for almost 4 years he’s like a dad and a grandpa to me and my kids we moved out of state and it’s the best thing ever his son know where he is and has spoken to him he says he loves you all and misses you but he’s better now”
