The Minford teacher and coach charged with assault after an incident during a middle-school volleyball game was in court for a pre-trial hearing on Tuesday.
Lori Rolfe’s attorney had also requested a jury trial and filed a motion for disclosure of evidence and a bill of particulars in a previous hearing.
At the most recent hearing, the judge set a court date for a status hearing for January 6, 2025.
We told you earlier that, Rolfe had been the subject of years of complaints alleging she bullied students.
We first told you about this over two years ago when SCDN published a letter to the editor from a Minford parent claiming Lori Rolfe held her daughter in a locker room before a volleyball game after telling other players to “take care” of the child.
“The coach pulled my daughter off the court during practice before a game and ask her which one of the 8th graders she could take one on one. After being locked in this room while the coach stood outside the door, the 8th graders threatened my daughter repeatedly. Repeatedly asking her which one she thought she could take one on one. The athletic director’s daughter told her she would take care of her and it wouldn’t be nice.
After noticing my daughter was missing from the court, I went to the locker room and was met by the coach holding the door shut. When I asked for my daughter, she put her body up against the door and refused to let her out. I went to the athletic director to get my daughter, and she refused also. She said it wasn’t important 3 minutes before the game.”
The mom said the Sheriff’s Office investigated, but no charges were filed.
Other former students alleged years of abusive behavior. “This woman needed to be gone when I was a kid. Screaming, yelling till your face turned purple, and always making you feel like shit.”
“Mrs Rolfe was a bully this doesn’t surprise me. She was mean to me for no reason, like I was a 12-year-old girl who did nothing. Anytime I spoke to her, she was rude and had an attitude. She’s TERRIBLE & does not need to be around anyone’s kids.
Another person said the abuse had gone on for decades. “She’s physically and emotionally abused student athletes for over 20 years, including when she was the Valley High School volleyball coach.”
We contacted Minford School for comment. Jeremy Litteral, the District Superintendent, told SCDN, “At this time, the district is working to cooperate with all involved in this investigation and legal matter.” He made no further comment regarding the situation or Rolfe’s current employment status.
