Nile Township Citizens Outraged: No Ambulance Service Complaints
In the past, we’ve covered the issues that Nile Township residents face. Unfortunately, the situation continues to deteriorate.
There is no ambulance service offered in the evening, during the night, and on weekends in Nile Township. That means ambulance services are available only from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. That means people living in Nile Township (after 4 p.m.) will have to wait for a secondary ambulance service to respond to their call for help.
Nile Township is home to just over 2,000 people spread across 85.8 square miles. Census data reveals the median age is 47, and 44% of the residents are over 50. With an average income of $26,751, a person would need to rely on insurance or some other form of payment if they need an emergency medical response at night or on the weekend.
According to a well-placed source within the township, they have 1 full-time employee and, as of right now, no paramedics.
According to ORC 4765.43(D)(1), the ambulance shall be staffed by at least two EMTs, AEMTs, or paramedics. One of these individuals may serve as the driver.
SCDN has spoken with several very concerned citizens in the past months. One of them had this to say. “Isn’t it odd that when the community complains about EMS coverage, it falls on deaf ears? However, when a Trustee’s family member needs an ambulance, it is a problem if they have no coverage.”
“Cast the blame where it belongs, with the Trustees. Too bad it’s the same Trustee that(…)didn’t seem to care when people waited for 45 minutes to an hour for the ambulance to arrive. “
Finally, they told SCDN, “Maybe now they will get their collective heads out of the sand and resolve all the issues.”
According to reports, there is a help wanted sign in the township office. But they feel the township is not taking aggressive steps to fill the positions needed to provide a full-time ambulance service that is already funded through tax dollars.
According to their website the Nile Township is open each weekday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. You may call 740 858-4777 to reach the office. Or you can email [email protected]
