Nola Jean (Vanhoose) Richard, 91, of Rubyville, passed away peacefully at SOMC Hospice on January 27, 2026. She was born on May 15, 1934 in Paintsville, KY, a daughter of the late Bandy and Jane Vanhoose. Nola graduated from Clay High School in 1953 and married her high school sweetheart David Richard on June 27, 1954. She worked as a data entry operator, a beautician and retired as the owner/operator of the Fashionette Upholstery Fabrics in Rubyville.
She taught Sunday School, Bible School and was active in the annual Youth Camp at Rubyville Community Church for many years then became a member Porter Freewill Baptist Church later in life.
Words can not express how much she was loved and adored by her family and friends. She was a shining light of faith and comfort in all our lives.
She is survived by one sister, Shirley Burke Upton, three children, Brent (Sheree), Jeannie Rucker (Greg) and Brian (Vicki);
Five grandchildren, Jennifer Doubrava (Gary), Drew Rucker (Starla), David Richard (Paula), Emily Brown (Drew) and Evan (Natasha) as well as eight great-grandchildren, Reagan and Jackson Rucker, Zac and Colton Doubrava, Laney and Avery Richard, Baylor and Bryleigh Brown.
In addition to her parents, Nola was preceded in death by David, her husband of 59 years, and two sisters, Joy Flint and Opal Morris.
The family is very grateful for the wonderful care provided at Elbrooke Retirement Center as well as SOMC Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 1, 2026 at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Pastor Mark Price and Pastor Calvin Ray Evans officiating. Burial will be at Universal Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from Noon to 2:00 p.m. Sunday prior to the service.
