Northwest High School COVID Issue

Dear School Community,
Northwest Local School District is committed to the safety and health of our students and staff. We want to inform you that we have recently received information that a Northwest High School student who attends the high school in person, tested positive for COVID-19. We are working closely with the Scioto
County Health Department and anyone identified as a close contact will be notified by the health department as a part of the COVID-19 investigation.
Northwest High School will remain open at this time. We ask you to take these steps to continue to be aware of your child’s health:
1. As a precaution, consider postponing plans for play dates, family visits, and extracurricular and social activities for the next 14 days.
2. Continue to check your child for COVID-19 symptoms daily: fever or chills, new uncontrolled cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, new onset of severe headache, especially with fever.
• If anyone in your household develops symptoms or tests positive for COVID-19, they should immediately isolate and call Scioto County Health Department 740- 355-8358. Also, contact your medical providers.
• If NO symptoms develop and you have not been instructed otherwise to quarantine for a different exposure, your child may continue to attend school.
What we have learned
According to a source within the district, the student is a member of the volleyball team. We’re told that the entire volleyball team is on mandatory quarantine.
The Latetest Word From Scioto EMA
The Scioto County and Portsmouth City Health Departments reported 12 new positive COVID19 cases today. The new cases bring the total to 715 for the county since the outbreak of the virus.
The health departments also reported 2 more people who previously tested positive for the virus, have recovered, bringing the total of recoveries to 557 people over the course of the pandemic.
There were no additional hospitalizations reported today so the total stays at 59 people that have been hospitalized, during the outbreak, in connection with the virus, or found to have the virus during their admission for other medical reasons. This number does not represent the number of people currently in the hospital in connection with COVID19.
Scioto County remains on Level 3 (Red) of the Ohio Department of Health’s (ODH) Public Health Advisory System (PHAS). The county’s level is reevaluated each Thursday.
