Portsmouth Police joined in the search for a missing man with dementia who wandered away from a local restaurant and learned they’d gotten an important clue about his whereabouts the night before.
Just after 10:30 pm, a caller told police they’d tried to assist an elderly man on Gallia Street, but he didn’t know his address. The caller said the man’s address was listed as 6th Street on his ID, so he gave him a ride there.
However, at 11 am the next day, police learned that an elderly man with dementia who currently lived in a Lucasville nursing home had been checked out and brought to Patties and Pints for dinner. However, during the course of the evening, the man wandered away from his companions.
Officers learned that the missing man had previously lived at the 6th Street address, which was now condemned. Family members feared he might have headed there.
When police got to the home, they said it was locked up. They knocked on the doors several times, but got no response. Police also attempted to speak with neighbors but no one was home.
At the time this report was received by SCDN, the investigation remains ongoing.
