Ohio mom drug arrest
Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputies busted a mom with a backpack bulging with drugs last week. Sadly, her 10-year-old son was there for the whole thing. Tiffany Gillum, of Ray, has a long history of drug arrests. In fact, she was out on bond for drug charges.
Jackson County Sheriff Tedd Frazier said complaints of drug activity at the Mid-City Cleaners laundromat on Broadway street prompted an investigation by his deputies. Back on August 6, the deputies found Tiffany Gillum inside the laundromat. Also with her was an unidentified man and a 10-year-old boy. Frazier said the boy was later identified as Gillum’s son.
Meth & Fentanyl
K-9 Officer Hershey detected the presence of narcotics in a white Dodge Charger at the laundromat. Police also checked out a red backpack sitting on the hood of the vehicle. Inside, the backpack they found seven and a half ounces of suspected Methamphetamine. Officers also discovered Fentanyl plus several small baggies of narcotics. They said those baggies looked to be packaged to sell.
But that’s not all they found. Police searched the Dodge Charger and confiscated multiple items related to the sale of narcotics including:
- digital scales
- button baggies
- needles
Deputies took Ms. Gillum, 38, and the man into custody. Police later released her son into the custody of a friend. Deputies impounded the vehicle and transported Ms. Gillum to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
Saving Up
When police questioned Gillum, they say she admitted to purchasing the narcotics. She told deputies she bought a pound of drugs, mostly methamphetamine from someone in Columbus. Gillum admitted that all the drugs in the backpack belonged to her.
Investigators said she claimed that the drug dealing was all for a good cause, she was saving up to get enough money to purchase a home.
Gillum was out on bond at the time of the arrest and is being held on a bond violation. Police said the case will be submitted to the Jackson County Prosecutor. Their office could file felony drug trafficking charges against Gillum.
Long Record
A check of court records shows 11 cases filed in Jackson Municipal Court against Gillum. Most recently, police arrested Gillum back in April for possessing drug instruments and disorderly conduct.
The court issued a bench warrant for her arrest back in May. The judge later recalled the warrant June only to be an issue it again a few days later. The court recalled the warrant again on July 1 and appointed a public defender for Gillum. The judge released her a pretrial hearing scheduled for August 24.
Officers caught Gillum back in 2018 with cocaine, meth, and digital scales while she was on probation.
