Ohio National Guard Called Up
As requested by the federal government, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine will send 185 members of the Ohio National Guard to the southwest later this year.
They will support the Southwest Border Mission, an initiative of the government, by providing non-law enforcement support to U.S. customs agents. There was no further information about the guard members’ duties provided by DeWine. The deployment will take place over the next few months.
Southwest Border Security involves the protection of the Mexican border in California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. The U.S. requested guard members from Ohio along with The National Guard Bureau and the Department of Homeland Security.
Members of the guard will join the 115 members of the Ohio Guard’s 1484th Transportation Company currently on duty at the border. A total of 3,000 Guardsmen from several states are involved in the mission.
