Ohio has weird taste in Thanksgiving TV shows, the Buckeye state prefers a surprising program to typical holiday classics. A new study by DishTV looked at which TV shows are the most popular in each state during the Thanksgiving holiday.
Experts figured out the most popular shows by using data from the IMDB website. The episodes had to meet the following criteria:
- Contain the keywords “Thanksgiving”
- Be produced between 1990–2020
- Have over 1,500 IMDb votes
- Achieve a rating of 7.5 and above
It’s A Friendsgiving In Most States
In 25 out of 50 states, the most-searched program was Friends. In 15 states, mostly on the East Coast, the most-searched show is This Is Us. Big Bang Theory was the most popular in Wisconsin, Mississippi, New Mexico, Nevada, and South Dakota. Alaska, Hawaii, and Wyoming prefer How I Met Your Mother.
Nine of the top-10 most-watched Thanksgiving TV episodes were episodes of Friends. Probably not surprising since the popular show is known for it’s Thanksgiving episodes. There are a lot of years to choose from. Friends for 10 years from 1994 through 2004 and has 236 episodes.

Ohio’s Favorite Choice
Here’s where Ohio breaks away from the pack. Ohioans’ most-searched TV show during Thanksgiving is Seinfeld. This “show about nothing” is not necessarily one you’d associate with Thanksgiving. But it turns out it’s the show Ohioans look for most around the Thanksgiving holiday. But we’re not alone. Virginia residents also have Seinfeld at the top of their list. The Thanksgiving episode in question is called The Mom and Pop Store.

Vermont stands alone as the only state that picks a House episode as its top Thanksgiving choice.
