Ora Truman Lyons JR was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family, at the age of 86 on March 31, 2025.
Ora was born to the late Ora and Pearl (Stone) Lyons SR in Greenup County on January 18, 1939. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Ida, of 57 years, two brothers (Glen Roy Lyons, David Lyons), two sisters (Joann Adkins, Mandy Ellen Lyons), a grandchild (Christian Campbell), and two special foster children (Rebecca “Becky” Dills and Jenny Groves). He is survived by three brothers (Jesse Lyons, Franklin Lyons, Tony Lyons) and one sister (Mary Potter).
Ora was raised in Greenup County where he met his wife, Ida, and they married in 1964. He leaves behind seven children, Judy Lyons, Mark (Heather) Lyons, Lora Ritter, Bill Lyons, Ora “Trumie” (Hazel) Lyons, Carol (Jason) Buckler, and Robert Campbell. He was also the temporary father to twenty-five foster children.
Ora was a hard worker all of his life. He worked for the Harper Construction Company. He then went on to work as a carman at CSX. While there, he taught welding and won several awards for his welding skills. He retired from CSX but never retired from working. Ora loved to garden and grow things. He was a farmer through and through. He owned and worked with cattle for most of his adult life. At any given time, you could find him working around his property or sitting outside checking on the cattle. He worked hard for all that he possessed but the greatest possessions to him were his wife and family.
Left behind to cherish his memories are his children, twelve grandchildren (Brent (Miranda), Felisha (Kyle), Brandi (Justin), Douglas, Jessica C., Dalton, Holden, Shelby, Jessica B., Landon, Chloe, Dallas). Eleven great grandchildren (Haven, Rayna, Willow, Lucas, Layla, Natali, Braxton, Laykynn, Kipp, Taylee, Karter), and several special friends.
Funeral services will be 11 A.M. Friday, April 4, 2025, at Cornerstone Pentecostal Church 740 State Route 3307 Greenup, KY 41144 with Brother Mark Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Ora & Pearl Lyons Cemetery in Greenup, KY. Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, April 3, 2025 at Morton-Hunt Family Funeral Home in South Shore, KY from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. and 1 hour before the service hour at the church on Friday.
