Orville McWhorter, Jr., 83, of Franklin Furnace, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at SOMC Hospice. He was born January 8, 1942 in Scioto County, a son of the late Orvel and Cora (Payton) McWhorter, he was a graduate of Green High School. Orville was a heavy equipment operator and a member of the Operating Engineers Local 18. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and attended Antioach Freewill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Harriett (Knapp) McWhorter; one son, Mark T. McWhorter; one daughter, Elista (Jeff) Stewart; two grandchildren, Gabrielle (Cody) Cooper, Kairce Ann (Chance) Stewart; two great grandchildren, Julia and Ethan Steward, and five sisters, Shirley Roof, Sharon Shaw, Sandra (Roger) Walker, Patricia (Jim) Deerfield, and Rita (Billy) Carpenter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles (Phyllis) McWhorter, and two sisters, Rose (Bill) Witten, and Mildred (James) Moore.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg with Pastor Roy Bennett and Rick Henderson officiating. Burial will be at Clapboard Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
