Out of Control at Kroger
Police responded to multiple reports of a male harassing local businesses.
Just before 8 am, Portsmouth Police Officers responded to a report of a man wearing a hoodie and combat boots throwing bricks at the back of the Hallmark Healthcare building on Gay Street.
When officers arrived on the scene, they determined it was the same man who had caused disturbances at O’Reilly’s Auto Parts and the Valero gas station in the past two days.
Officers said the man was not intoxicated and described his behavior as “abnormal but non-threatening.” They determined he was not a danger to himself or others and let him go with a warning.
Around 12:30, another report of someone throwing things at a Gay Street business came in. Kroger employees said a man was throwing things at the pharmacy drive-thru window. However, he left before the police arrived. Twenty minutes later, he returned and went into the store. Officers asked him to leave, and he complied. A man matching the description returned to the area several more times but left when asked.
Around 2:40 am on Monday, witnesses near King’s Daughters’ Hospital reported seeing a man matching the description carrying a bucket into the parking lot and attempting to use it for a bathroom. He left before officers arrived but returned twenty minutes later.
The man refused offers to take him to the hospital for treatment, so officers dropped him off at the Super Quik.
However, he returned to Kroger just after 12:30 pm and asked to speak to an officer regarding issues he was having with people in Tracy Park. Police could not determine what he wanted and allowed him to go on his way.
