A man already wanted for parole violation found himself back behind bars after a domestic violence incident. Shockingly, an Ohio judge decided to give him community control last year despite a history of violence that resulted in two prison sentences.
A worried dad called 911 at 11 am to say that Kevin Jenkins was on drugs and had pulled a gun on his daughter. He’d eventually passed out, so the daughter hid the gun. The man said the guy was not only on parole, but also on probation through Champaign County.
The woman called in to say she was waiting at a nearby store for officers. Officers headed to her home and went in with her permission. They located the gun and arrested Jenkins for domestic violence, having weapons under a disability, aggravated menacing, and parole violation.
Jenkins was charged with obstruction of official business, possessing drug abuse instruments, drug possession, and illegally bringing drugs into a corrections facility back in 2023 but struck a deal to plead guilty to drug possession and obstructing official business.
Jenkins was on parole for charges of assaulting a police officer and carrying a concealed weapon as a result of an incident in Pike County at the time of his arrest. However, the court determined that despite Jenkins having gone to prison twice and being caught with drugs, that he wasn’t a violent offender and a good candidate for community control.
The court also noted that Jenkins had PTSD due to his prior arrest history and from being shot by law enforcement. It also noted that the officer he assaulted only sustained minor injuries during the attack.
The report also noted that Jenkins had driven without a license, smuggled drugs into a jail, and failed to comply with officers on multiple occasions.
It suggested that since previous sentences had failed to rehabilitate Jenkins, he would be a good candidate for community control instead of prison.
