Emergency responders received a call shortly after 6 am reporting that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian near Trinity Hall on 73.
A number of agencies responded to the scene, including OSP, Scioto County Sheriffs, Rush Township Fire, and EMS. The road was closed for 2 1/2 hours.
OSP took charge of the investigation. It was confirmed that one male had died at the scene. According to a statement released by OSP after our initial publication, Derrick S. Cordle, age 38, of Ashland, Kentucky, was attempting to cross the roadway when he was struck by a vehicle.
A1 Towing took possession of the vehicle. It was requested that it be kept inside to allow for the investigation to continue.
The road was reopened at 8:25 am.
The driver of the vehicle has not yet been identified. The statement by OSP concluded that the driver was not impaired in any way.
No other injuries were reported.
The incident remains under active investigation.
