Philip Ray Bond, 74, of Wheelersburg, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. He passed away surrounded by family at the SOMC Hospice Center. Phil was born on May 17, 1949, in Portsmouth, the only son of the late Ralph Lewis and Ithel Phillips Bond.
A 1968 Wheelersburg High School graduate, Phil was a stand-out player on the school’s football team. Following graduation, he joined the Army and served during the Vietnam Era. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, and Sharpshooter and Marksman commendations.
On July 15, 1969, he married Debra Gale Little Bond in Wheelersburg, and the two were blessed with two sons. Phil attended Plymouth Heights Church-Nazarene, and he had retired from Southern Ohio Medical Center and the former Dayton Walther. He was a skilled woodworker and enjoyed following sports, especially the Cleveland Browns.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 54 years, Debbie; two sons, Shane Patrick (Kara) Bond of Wheelersburg and Micah Lee Bond of Sciotoville; a sister, Connie Thieken of Portsmouth; half-brother, Bryan Bond of Columbus; brother-in-law, Dennis Little of Wheelersburg; six grandchildren, Tyler (Kasey) Bond, Corey Dunn and fiancée, Mariah, Trenton Bond and fiancée, Tayler, Drew Dunn, Dylan Bond and fiancée, Julie, and Briley (Sophie) Bond; four great-grandchildren, Layne, Maxton, Harlee and Emmitt; and several nephews and their families.
In addition to his parents, Phil was also preceded in death by a special aunt and uncle, Virgie and Lowell Liston.
Private services will be held under the direction of the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Pastor Andy Ramey officiating.
The James Dickey Post #23 American Legion Honor Detail will provide military graveside rites.
