Pit Bull Tasered and Other Dog Attack Reports
Portsmouth Police Officers responded to multiple reports of dog attacks over the weekend.
The first incident happened just after 10 am on Friday when a man riding his bike on Charles Street said he was attacked by a small dog that bit him and caused him to wreck. The man said he thought he had broken his hip. Witnesses believed the dog lived at a home on that street where multiple canines are allowed to roam free. Police took information for a report.
At 10 am, on Saturday, witnesses reported a gray pit bull being aggressive towards customers at the Family Dollar on Gallia Street. Callers said the dog kept going under the dumpster at the store. Officers contacted the Dog Warden, but the owner eventually arrived on the scene saying the dog had broken its collar. The owner took the dog home, but officers warned them they would be cited on Monday.
Just before 7 pm, a caller reported an aggressive pit bull behind the trailer park on Bertha Avenue. Officers said the dog did not seem aggressive, but they did notify animal control.
Just after 12:30 pm, on Saturday, witnesses said two pit bulls charged a man in the 1900 block, then a woman contacted officers to report that she had been bitten. Officers headed to the home of the dogs’ owner, but the woman declined to file any charges.
At 5 pm, two pit bulls ran away from an incident on 17th Street to a Linden Avenue address, where they attacked a small dog in the backyard.
Officers deployed a taser on the aggressive dogs, and the Dog Warden responded to the scene.
