Officers investigated multiple reports of pit bull attacks throughout the city and county over the weekend.
Portsmouth Police responded to Brunner Avenue after witnesses complained about pit bulls running loose. Police spoke with multiple neighbors who had the same complaint about the dogs.
When officers spoke to the owner, they said a child had accidentally let the dog loose, and they had ordered collars to keep the dogs in the yard.
Officers advised the owner of city ordinances requiring you to keep dogs contained and also said they would contact animal control.
Around 3:20 p.m., a 3rd Street caller said a loose pit bull attacked his sister-in-law’s dog on Farney Avenue. The Dog Warden headed to the address the witness gave, but no one answered the door.
Just 10 minutes later, a woman called the police from Wayne Hills to say a pit bull had attacked her. An ambulance responded to the scene, and officers took information for a report.
A delivery driver making a stop at an apartment on St. Rt. 139 said a dog rang out of an apartment and bit him in the leg. The Dog Warden responded to the scene to investigate the incident.
Later that day, a man delivering a package to Green Street said he had been bitten by a bit of bull. Once again, deputies and the Dog Warden responded to the scene.
