PPD officers collared a suspected car thief and residents complain about a puppy in peril. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Under the Influence
Just after 9 am, a caller contacted police to report drug activity in the 12th Street area. However, when police arrived on the scene, nobody wanted to give any details of the alleged activity.
Police were called to a Gay Street church at 12:43 pm for a report of people shooting up on the property. One man appeared to have overdosed. The suspects left before police arrived, however, officers found evidence that someone had attempted to break a basement window.
Search For Missing Kid
PPD aided Adams County officials in the hunt for a missing juvenile. They searched a home on the Scioto Trail the kid was known to frequent.
However, no one there had seen the juvenile for several days.
Alleged Car Thief Held at Gunpoint
Officers discovered a stolen vehicle on Summit Street just before 4 pm. Police held the suspect at gunpoint before taking him into custody.
The vehicle owner came to the scene and picked up their car.
Puppy in Peril
Someone noticed a puppy, lying on hay in the driveway of an Argonne Road residence and posted it to Facebook with the police department’s number, asking people to keep calling the police until something was done about the situation.
Meanwhile at the Car Wash
Police arrested a man with open warrants at the Splash N Go Car Wash just after 6 pm.
Forty minutes later a caller reported a man at the Magic Tunnel Car Wash yelling at passing cars. Police could not locate the man.
Eviction Complaint
A woman contacted police after her daughter and the daughter’s boyfriend refused to leave her property after being evicted.
However, police learned she left a note for the people to leave, not a signed notice through the court. Police explained the procedure for heading to court to get an eviction notice.
Under the Influence
Officers responded to a report of an overdose on 8th Street at 7:30 pm. An ambulance transported the man to the hospital.
Girlfriend Goes Gonzo at Garage
A woman contacted police at 8:30 pm to report an incident while she was having a tire changed at a Gallia Street garage.
She claimed an employee’s girlfriend confronted her and accused her of texting the employee. After she left the garage, the woman stopped her and attempted to fight her.
Suspicious Activity
A Dorman Drive caller contacted officers just before 11 pm to report she came home to find her doors open and her trash can moved.
Police found no sign of forced entry or anyone inside the home. The woman said it was possible she could have left the door open.
Police told her to contact them if anything turns up missing.
