The week got off to a very angry start in Portsmouth. From raging hormones to destroyed lawn statues, tensions were running high. Of course, you’d be mad if your neighbor kept peeing off the porch, too.

Suspicious Minds
Monday
- Just after midnight, officer got a call about a woman screaming somewhere in the 2400 block of Mabert Road. When police arrived, they didn’t see anyone.
- At 2:03 am, police answered a report about a possible gunshot in Farley Square. They checked on foot but found nothing unusual.
- Just before 3 am, a caller reported people hanging around an abandoned house on Grant Street. When officers checked the scene there, all was well.
- A suspicious noise prompted a McConnell Avenue man to call officers at 4:23 am. He thought someone was messing with his back door and then pounding on the front of the house. Officers found no one on the scene. No sign of damage.
- At 11:15 pm, police were called to 4th Street on a report of several people smoking a pipe and acting strangely. Officers found some kids at the scene and released them to their parents.
Tuesday
- A shadow prompted a Willow Way resident to call police around 3 am. Officers checked the scene. Everything was fine.
- Just before 10:30, police were called to Bellomy Apartments. A woman claimed her neighbors were trying to poison her through her light fixtures. The neighbors disavowed knowledge of this activity. However, police said they were going to call the Health Department about the conditions at the apartments.
- At 10:45, police answered a call to Grandview Avenue. Someone attempted to break into an empty apartment. Officers found broken glass at the scene. They took a report.
Hey? Where’s My Stuff?
Monday
- At 12:42 am, a resident of Alexandria House called to report items missing from a vehicle.
- At 1:21 am, a Franklin Avenue woman reported two men trying to get into her car. One had a backpack. Police stopped a car in the alley between McConnell and Grandview for a tag light. They saw amplifiers, a cd unit, and a speaker with cut wires in the back. But the driver refused to allow them to search the vehicle. Since the none of the items had been previously reported stolen, they let him go.
- A Cincinnati man called PPD at 12:35 pm to report that he’d ordered donuts from a local business for his mother and that they’d used his credit card to buy a pizza and other items. Officers took a report.
- Just one minute later, a 5th Street woman called to complain about a missing FedEx package.
- Just after 2 pm, police were called to the Family Dollar on 11th Street for a report of a shoplifter.
Tuesday
- Someone ripped off items from SOMC Hospice. Police were called to the scene by the construction crew. Crooks jumped the fence and took hand tools, drywall guns, cordless routers, screw guns, and a band saw. The crime was caught on security video.
- Officers were called to Court Street just before 3 pm. A man reported someone broke into his truck. The crook took tools and stole parts from the car.
ODs & Drugs
Monday
- At 3:13 am PPD responded to a possible OD on Argonne Road. The woman was taken to SOMC by the fire department.
- Just after noon, police responded to the 8th street for a report of a woman passed out in a bathroom. When police arrived, she was awake and refused to be taken to the hospital.
- Officers answered the call of a man overdosing on 5th Street just after 11 pm. He was gone when they arrived.
Tuesday
- At 3 am, police were called to Vinton Avenue for a report of people smoking a crack pipe inside a vehicle. One of the individuals had a warrant. He was issued a summons to appear in court later.
- Just after 3 pm, police found a woman who appeared to have overdosed in a vehicle on 29th Street. She refused medical assistance.
- Police were called to 17th Street for a report of a man overdosing at 8:30 pm. He refused treatment.
Keep It Down
Monday
Someone kicked off their Monday with loud music on Market Street. Police were called on a noise complaint at 7:27 am. They rang the buzzer for the apartment multiple times. No one answered.
Dude, Where’s My Car?
Monday
Just before 9 am, police were called to Vinton Avenue. A caller from H & R Block told police a woman came in and asked her to call police. The woman someone stole her silver Escape. The woman also claimed that a man in a red truck was pursuing the thief. The woman left on foot.
That’s My Money!
Monday
Officers were called to Findlay Manor just after 11 am. A man complained that his wife was holding on to the money from his checks. She’s currently his payee but he wants to change that. He’d been advised by the Social Security Administration to file a report.
Tuesday
- A man called police to Spring Street just before 3pm. He said a woman had her hands on his stimulus check. Police helped him get his money.
- Just after 6 pm, a man called police to report that a guy who used to live with him claimed all three of his children on his income tax. When police spoke to the guy, he explained that their father doesn’t have custody and that he’s the guardian. However, he says he didn’t file any income tax claims. Parties were advised to contact the IRS.
Kids in Danger?
Monday
At 12:21 pm police performed a welfare check for four children at a Thomas Avenue apartment. A caller told police the mom was using drugs around the children. Police spoke with the kids who said they’d not seen anything like that. Mom thinks it was a spiteful ex-boyfriend.
Assaults
Monday
- At 4 pm on Monday, police responded to Mabert Road. A woman claimed her ex assaulted her. She said he was now walking up Mabert. Officers checked his home but he wasn’t there.
- Police were called to Mound Park at 7:30 pm for a report of a man beating up a woman. Both parties were gone when police arrived.
- At 9:10 pm, officers responded to Coolidge Avenue for a report of a man beating up a girl. Both parties were gone when they got there.
- Just after 10:30 pm, a Park Avenue woman told police her brother threatened her. She said she wasn’t really afraid but wanted to report the incident. They said to let them know if he comes back.
Tuesday
Just before 2 am, a man called from Summit Street to say that another man tried to fight him outside his apartment. He claimed the man also threw things at the building.
Not Mad. Just Pregnant
Monday
Police were called to Buckley Avenue just before midnight for a report of screaming and loud noise.
When they spoke to the resident, she said she was both hormonal and pregnant. While snooping on her boyfriend’s Facebook account, she found something that started an argument. She admitted that she got pretty loud. The couple agreed to stay apart for the night. They were told to keep it down.
Lawn Statue Attack
Tuesday
- Officers responded to a brutal attack on lawn decoration just before 8:30 am at the Woodbine Apartments.
- A woman reported someone had stomped her hanging plants and also bent a shepherd’s for in half, as well as messing up some outdoor trinkets.
- When police questioned the suspect, he said he “Did not want that garbage in the yard. Total value of the items was estimated at d. $6.00, $2.00 hook, $25.00 hook, 8 trinkets @ $2.00 each.
It’s A Boat, Not An Apartment
Tuesday
- Police were called to Court Street at 12:33 pm. A man reported that he had a boat parked on his property and someone was living in it. He found clothes, dishes, and garbage in the boat.
- Police were called back to Court Street just after 10 pm. Officers found the people who were living in the boat. Both of them had warrants. A female subject was given a warning and let go. The man was booked into the county jail.
Kittens Attacked
Tuesday
A woman called police at 3:21 pm to report a dog attack. She said the animal killed her cat and two kittens. Police forwarded the complaint to Animal Control
Porch Pee Pee
Tuesday
- A boy with some bad bathroom habits prompted a call to officers just before 6 pm.
- A woman advised police that a young man who lived at a Charles Street home was peeing on his front porch and showing his privates to the world.
- The woman has three daughters who have also witnessed the peeing
- Police spoke with the boy, who is 14 years old.
- The boy’s dad says he thinks the kid is indeed the culprit.
- Neighbors report that the boy’s brother is also often shirtless and pantsless in public.
- The father said it won’t happen again.
- Police warned both brothers.
Knives Out
Tuesday
Police were called to Farney Avenue just before 9 pm. A man said he was cut on the neck with a knife. Medics treated the victim and arrested the alleged assailant.
Let’s See If We Can’t Make Things Worse
Tuesday
- Police were called to a Farley Court apartment just after 9 pm. A woman said her ex-boyfriends sister was beating on her door.
- The woman’s brother came out of the apartment and yelled racial slurs at five men across the street. That caused an issue with the five guys.
- Police advised him to go back in the house and not start things he didn’t want to finish. Police advised all involved to behave.
