A Portsmouth mom is behind bars after her child was found wandering alone — not for the first time — near the SOMC Hospice Center.
Security at the facility called police after staff spotted the young girl roaming the property, raising serious concerns. According to staff, this wasn’t a one-time thing — the child has shown up alone multiple times before, prompting a troubling pattern.
👮♂️ An officer quickly arrived and stayed with the little girl, even presenting her with a teddy bear for comfort while things got sorted out. Authorities then contacted Scioto County Children’s Services, who responded to the scene.
🔗 Police arrested Jennifer Walsh, charging her with child endangerment, and booked her into the Scioto County Jail. She’s scheduled for a pre-trial hearing on August 25.
⚠️ Parenting PSA:
Kids wandering alone is more than just a scare — it’s a crime. If you’re overwhelmed, ask for help. CPS, local agencies, and even neighbors can step in before police and jail bars do.
Because when a teddy bear is doing more parenting than the parent — it’s time for a change.
