Portsmouth Police responded to 60 calls between noon Tuesday, March 10 and noon Wednesday, March 11.
Tuesday afternoon around 2 pm they answered a call from an elderly woman in a wheelchair who said she’d been locked out of her 17th Street apartment by her son’s ex-girlfriend. The building manager told police that the ex-girlfriend isn’t on the lease but that she was previously advised by another officer than she couldn’t get the girlfriend out of the apartment without starting eviction proceedings since she’d lived there for two months with the woman’s son.
Just after 4:30 pm, a woman reported a case of identity theft. She said when she says she was denied treatment at a Columbus hospital because another woman had used her Social Security Number to get medications from other area hospitals. Portsmouth PD has no jurisdiction over Columbus ID theft, but the woman said the same suspect had tried to get a prescription from a local CVS in her name as well. Officers advised the victim to report the theft to the Social Security Office and said they would attempt to contact CVS to obtain footage of the suspect.
Officers responded twice to overdose calls at the Woodbine apartments on Kendall Avenue. Once just after 4:30 pm for a woman not breathing. She was conscious when officers arrived on the scene and refused treatment. A second call came in at 9:30 pm for a man found on a floor unable to move. An ambulance was called.
Just after midnight on Wednesday officers found a man in a vacant home on Harding Avenue. He was inside the house with a flashlight. He told police he was searching for some string to tie together some food he’d dug out of a dumpster. Officers found seven syringes on him. He was arrested and taken to the Scioto County Jail for possessing drug abuse instruments.
At 6:30 am on Wednesday, police responded to King’s Daughters Medical Center to help search for a suicidal patient who ran away from the facility. Police later found the man, who was under the influence of drugs and combative. He was suffering from a large, self-inflicted cut on his arm. He was transported to SOMC for treatment.
Police also responded to 21 traffic, parking, and lockout calls as well as seven alarms to homes and businesses. All seven alarms turned out to be false.
