Portsmouth Police: Missing Wife & Dumpster Diving

Portsmouth, Ohio-From a missing woman to dumpster divers to a woman from a COVID positive house who kept calling 911, we break down the calls in these next 8 slides.

Can’t We All Just Get Along?

Shortly after midnight, a Mabert Road caller reported a large group of people fighting in the 1300 block. Police caught up with the group on Gallia Street. A woman reported that people she did not know were attempting to fight her.

Officers responded to a report of two men fighting and pulling each other out of a car at 17th and Kendall just after 8 pm. When police arrived, they were already gone.

Under the Influence

A caller reported a man in a brown coat passing out on a bike in the middle of 6th Street. The man told police he was all right and would walk to his sister’s home.

Tacos and Lotto

Just after 4 am, a caller reported a woman passed out inside a vehicle in the Big Lots parking lot.  It turned out she was just enjoying some tacos and scratching off lottery tickets. Police said she seemed fine.

Dumpster Diving

Police responded to a report of a suspicious person inside the fenced area at Knittel Service Center on Lincoln just before 5 am.

There was no one inside the fence when police arrived but there were people digging through the dumpster. The gate to the business was standing open. Officers were unable to secure it.

Police discovered men inside the open dumpster in the parking lot. They told officers they were junking. Police advised them they are not allowed inside the fenced area.

Missing Person

A man called the police at 6:44 am to report a possible missing person. He said his intoxicated wife walked away from a friend’s home last night and he hadn’t been able to get in contact with her since.

Police took information for a report and told him if she didn’t return by midnight, they would do a report.

He called back at 1:40 pm to say he still had not heard from her and that he’d learned his wife got into an altercation with a man the night before somewhere in the East End.

Police located the woman at 3:15 pm and reported she was fine.

Continuous Calling

PPD and the Sheriff’s Office received numerous 911 calls from a home under a COVID-19 alert. The family told police she’d called Portsmouth Ambulance numerous times for chest pains and had been to three different hospitals in the past 24 hours.

Officers requested Portsmouth Ambulance respond to the call and informed EMS personnel about the COVID alert. They also suggested the woman’s family seek some mental health treatment.

Loose Pit Bull

Officers received a report of a loose pit bull on High Street at 8:38 am. Animal control handled the problem.

Suspicious Activity

  • A Circle Avenue woman called police to report someone attempted to break into her home the night before. Her window was busted. Police took information for a report.
  • At 9:23 pm, a caller reported a man and woman in dark clothes, attempting to break into Goodwill on Robinson Avenue. Officers found the pair sitting near the property. The woman was attempting to put items into a bag that she claimed fell out when she fell down.
