Portsmouth Police Reports: Child in Danger
Grandparents allow a mom who’d lost custody to go for a drive with a child and bad things happen. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Helping Hand
Just after 2 officers responded to a report of a suspicious person at Mac A Doo’s. An officer spoke with a woman who appeared to be lost.
She explained to police that she’d been involved in a domestic incident in New Boston and was having problems getting around due to a broken ankle.
An officer gave her a ride home to New Boston.
Not Helping Yourself
A woman contacted officers at 2:11 am to report that her son’s father took her keys from a Robinson Avenue apartment.
Despite having a protection order against the man, she continually allows him into the apartment. The woman said it’s because she wants her son to see his father.
Police explained that they cannot help protect her from domestic incidents if she continues to allow him into the home.
911 Hang-up
Officers responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call at a 23rd Street home. No one answered the callback. Officers discovered that an elderly woman had fallen.
The fire department came to her aid.
Hot Pursuit
Police took part in a pursuit, just before 8:30 am. The vehicle was left at 6th and Harmon and officers began a search for a slender, tattooed man in a ‘wife beater’ shirt.
The man was spotted on the back porch of a 7th Street residence and officers finally caught up with him on 6th Street. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office had open warrants for the man.
Police towed his car and transported him to the station for booking.
Child In Danger
Police removed a child from a suspicious vehicle at 3:49 pm. An off-duty trooper noticed a mini-van swerving on southbound 23, contacted police, and followed the vehicle.
Officers caught up with the van on Timmonds Avenue and found there was a child in the vehicle. Police took the female driver into custody, contacted CPS, and transported the child to the home of the grandparents.
When CPS arrived, police learned they already had custody of the child. CPS warned them not to allow the mother to take the child for any more visits.
Police booked the driver and towed her vehicle.
Bones Discovered on Riverbank
At 10:22 pm, a caller reported finding bones in the campground on River Road. Officers collected the bones as evidence.
A doctor and nurse who looked at the evidence agreed the bones belonged to an animal. In fact, one bone still had fur on it.
Under The Influence
At 8:30 am, a caller reported 2 people passed out in a black convertible with a syringe lying on the ground outside the vehicle.
The pair told the police they were homeless. Officers told them to clean up the mess outside the vehicle and move along.
Cry For Help
At 9:45 am, a home health aide asked police to make entrance into a Harrison Street residence. The caregiver’s elderly patient was inside calling for help.
Unhappy Customer
PNC Bank asked officers to check on the welfare of a customer who was unhappy about his account. They said the man threatened to put a pistol in his mouth and shoot himself.
When police spoke to the man at 10:49 am, he said he had no plans to harm himself.
Grand Theft Auto
PPD assisted the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office with the recovery of a stolen vehicle. Officers found the car in the parking lot of the 1st Stop.
When the towing company attempted to retrieve the vehicle, the strap holding it on the truck broke loose and the car hit the back of the bed and sustained damage to the grill and headlights.
Yelling At Myself
Witnesses reported an argument at an 8th Street home at 11:22 am. It turned out the man was having a loud argument with himself.
Officers said it was not an uncommon occurrence for this individual. They advised him to quiet down.
Threats Were Made
Police responded to a Gay Street business, which complained of threats made on social media and in court over an eviction.
Officers told the owner to contact them if the people involved in the proceeding contact him again.
