Portsmouth Police Reports - Stolen Dogs & Walker

(Portsmouth, Ohio) Thieves made off with everything from rabbit dogs to a walker to a child’s school computer on Friday. We’ll break down the highlights from the PPD crime logs in these 11 slides.

Hang Ups

Just after midnight dispatch received a hang-up call from the Kinneys Lane area. There was no answer when the police called back. PPD dispatched two units to check it out.

At 12:22 am, another call came in from a woman who said she needed an officer on Highland Avenue and hung up. When the police called back again, she gave them the address.

It turned out to be a dispute over keys. A man gave the keys to the woman who called the police and she left for the evening.

Hey, That’s My Stuff!

  • A man called police just after 9 am to report his phone and wallet stolen at the Oasis Convenient Mart on 17th Street. Police took information for a report.
  • At 9:18 am, officers were called to Hudson House on 5th Street for a theft report. Police went to Alexandria House to speak with a suspect. Officers said they would wait for video from PMHA and then request a warrant.
  • A Rose Street woman called police at 9:52 am to report that someone stole her walker and wheeler at 9:52 am. Police took information for a report.
  • A Mickelwaithe Road caller reported tools stolen from a truck at 11:35 am. Officers took information for a report.
  • At 11:55 am, a Harding Avenue man reported someone busted out his back windshield and stole items from his vehicle. Suspects stole hand sanitizer, dog tags, and a class ring.
  • Another car break-in at 1:42 pm. This time on 3rd Street. A suspect went into an unlocked vehicle and stole a book bag containing a child’s school Chromebook.
  • Just after 4 pm, police received a report of a stolen black 2009 Chevy Impala. The caller said it was taken from Hudson House sometime between  10 pm Thursday and 1 pm Friday.
  • A Ritchie Street caller reported medication stolen from their porch at 5:44 pm. Police took information for a report.

Suspicious Activity

  • Officers answered a report of a man sleeping on the steps of the 17th Street Learning Center. They asked him to leave.
  • At 12:51 pm, a Charles Street caller reported a man and woman going into an abandoned house. The woman was described as a redhead with sores on her face. When police checked the home, all entrances were locked.
  • Officers received a report of a man walking up and down Kendall Avenue screaming at himself at 4:42 pm. They took him into custody.
  • At 9:19 pm, a 6th Street caller reported a man with face tattoos checking doors in the area.

Under The Influence

  • A caller reported a man and woman who appeared to be high on drugs driving a red Pontiac on Gallia Street at 10:29 am. Police could not find the pair.
  • At 9:40 pm, a caller reported a man staggering around in the road on 8th Street. Police caught up with the guy, who is a frequent subject of these types of reports, and advised him to stay out of the road.

Dog Gone

At 12:28 pm, a Summit Street man told police a thief took his two rabbit dogs from his back yard. He’d already checked with the dog warden but the animals were not there.

Police took information for a report.

Custody Emergency

A man called police to the parking lot of CVS on the Scioto Trail at 12:46 pm. He told officers he just got emergency custody of a 7-year-old and wanted police to accompany him to get the child.

However, he did not yet have the proper paperwork. Police said to call back when he did.

Out In Underwear?

AT 1:17 pm, a 17th Street caller reported an unsupervised little boy playing outside in his underwear. When police arrived, they said the children were both clothed and under adult supervision.

Threatened with a Gun

A man called police at 1:18 pm to report a guy threatened him with a gun Wayne Hills earlier in the day. He didn’t know the guy’s name.

When officers responded to the call, they could not locate the caller.

Stalk Much?

A woman called police at 2:26 pm to report her ex-boyfriend was inside her Wilson Avenue home and posting pictures of the place.

She was out of state and wanted police to go into the house to check. Police told her they could not enter the house because they had no proof she was who she claimed to be. They said if she could send someone local with a key, police would check the property with that person.

Deer Vs. Car

A vehicle hit a deer on Coles Blvd at 6:38 pm. The deer was alive but severely injured. Police destroyed the animal.

Children in Danger?

Officers responded to a request for a welfare check on three kids at a Kentland Avenue home at 7:41 pm. A caller claimed the parents were doing drugs.

Police observed no drug activity and the children appeared fine. The parent said she believed family members made the report to harass her.
