Portsmouth Police investigated reports of a rape at the Holiday Inn and a woman hanging off the Grant Bridge. We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Woman Reported Hanging Off Grant Bridge
Just after 7 pm, a caller reported a woman hanging off the Grant Bridge with another woman attempting to talk to her.
Officers spoke to two women who were walking to the Kentucky side.
Assault and Overdose on Mabert Road
Just after 7 pm, police responded to a report of a man hitting a woman and slamming her heard against the window of a truck.
The man had an open warrant from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, however, police released him because the county had no units to pick him up.
He had overdosed before police got there but refused medical help from the fire department.
Overdose and Heart Attack
Just after 8:30 pm, police detained a man with multiple open warrants after he was revived from an overdose. The county refused to take him into the jail until he was cleared medically.
The hospital discovered the man had suffered a heart attack during the overdose and kept him for observation. The officer advised him to turn himself in once he was released from the hospital.
Rape Reported at Holiday Inn
Just before 2 am, a caller contacted an officer about a sexual assault at the Holiday Inn. An officer took the woman to the hospital for a sexual assault examination and took information for a report.
Suspicious Activity
At 6 am, a witness reported a man sleeping in a gold car at the Taco Bell. The officer was familiar with the man who lives in his car due to a domestic violence incident. The officer sent him on his way.
A witness reported a man wearing camo standing in the street and yelling at people in the 2300 block of the Scioto Trail.
Just before 1 pm, a caller reported a man sitting in the median at the overpass on Chillicothe holding a sign bumming money.
Witnesses also reported a woman staggering in the median.
Suspicious Activity
At 10 am, a 5th Street caller reported a woman who appeared to have been beaten up approached a construction worker and asked him to call 911.
Police could not locate the woman in question but witnesses reported seeing a disturbance and a woman walking down the street.
Man Arrested After Gallia Street Crash
Police arrested a man after a crash on Gallia Street just after noon. There was already an open warrant for the man and police confiscated a 9mm weapon from the vehicle. They took him for a urine test and arranged to have the vehicle towed.
An officer took the man to the Scioto County Jail.
