Portsmouth Taxi Driver Involved in Drug Trafficking
Following a 3-day jury trial, Robert Smith, a resident of Dayton, Ohio, has been found guilty on multiple charges, including engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, conspiracy, and trafficking in fentanyl and methamphetamine.
The case started as a result of a traffic stop in October 2022 when Smith was a passenger in a Portsmouth Taxi driven by Susan Carver, whose troubling history has come to light. There were two passengers in the taxi traveling from Dayton to Portsmouth.
Susan Carver, the taxi driver, is a resident of Portsmouth, Ohio, and had several previous arrests dating back to 2005, including charges of drug possession, aggravated possession, failure to appear, probation violation, domestic violence, OVI, and contempt of court. In total, she has been arrested 10 times on 18 charges.
It is worth noting that Portsmouth Taxi drivers must undergo background checks conducted by the Portsmouth Police Department.
Yesterday, Judge Kuhn handed down a substantial sentence of 28 to 33.5 years for Mr. Smith, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes.
Additionally, Reginald Langford, another individual involved in the case and a passenger in the taxi, received a sentence of 14 to 19 years after accepting a plea deal.
Meanwhile, Carver, who has pleaded guilty to her involvement, awaits sentencing for her role in the drug trafficking operation. She has been housed at the Scioto County Jail for the last 156 days on a $150,000 bond.
