Lawrence County Deputies were called to a group home after a Portsmouth teen was implicated in a murder plot.
Staff members at the facility said the teenager was currently on probation and had been placed in the facility by Scioto County CPS. They said the boy left the facility and ran away to Portsmouth, where PPD officers retrieved him and brought him back.
When counselors spoke with the boy, he outlined a plot to kill another child. He told officers he planned to run away to his uncle’s house in Portsmouth, steal a handgun, and then kill the other child. He said if the child wasn’t home, he planned to shoot his mother for bringing him into the world.
A deputy placed the boy under arrest. He told officers he had only made the threats in hopes of being removed from the group home. The deputy booked the boy into the Lawrence County Juvenile Justice Center for aggravated menacing.
Officers attempted to contact the boy’s intended victim, and Scioto County Juvenile Court was able to give them the name of the boy’s mother. However, they weren’t able to make contact with the family.
