A disturbing report of a possible deceased person inside a McDermott residence brought deputies and medics rushing to the scene.
According to the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, callers contacted 911 after looking through a window and seeing a man sitting motionless in a chair. The callers told dispatch they had tried banging on the door but received no response.
They reported the man appeared pale with his mouth and eyes open and said he had a history of drug use. Callers also reported hearing a second man inside the home singing.
Because the situation was unclear and potentially serious, deputies had an ambulance stage nearby while they approached the home with the property owner.
When deputies entered to check on the man, they discovered he was still alive and immediately called medics to assist.
The man eventually became responsive but declined medical treatment.
Deputies also reported locating drugs inside the home.

First responders say situations like this can be difficult for bystanders to assess. Someone who appears motionless or unresponsive may be experiencing a medical emergency, an overdose, or another serious health issue.
If you encounter someone who appears unconscious or cannot be awakened:
- Call 911 immediately
- Try to wake the person if it is safe to do so
- Look for signs of breathing or movement
- Stay nearby until first responders arrive
Quick action can make the difference between life and death in overdose or medical emergencies.
