A tense situation inside a Portsmouth home brought officers to the scene after a verbal argument broke out over marijuana—just hours before a scheduled visit from Children Services.
According to the report, a woman called for help after becoming upset that a man had marijuana inside the house while she was trying to clean and prepare for an upcoming CPS home visit. By the time officers arrived, the marijuana had already been removed from the residence.
Officers spoke with both adults and confirmed that the argument never turned physical. The man acknowledged he understood why the woman was upset, given the circumstances and the pending CPS visit.
As part of the call, officers checked on the child in the home and reported that the child appeared to be okay. They also took time to look over the living conditions, noting the family rents a room from the man’s brother.
Police additionally notified Children Services about the situation, ahead of the scheduled home visit later that afternoon.
The call ended without charges, serving instead as a reminder of how quickly stress can escalate—especially when families are under scrutiny and worried about doing the right thing for their kids.
