Portsmouth, Ohio Police responded to a car rolling into a house, thieves trying to make off with a carport, and a guy they had to pick up twice on the same day on Saturday. They also dealt with numerous overdoses and a report of a mobile meth lab. Check out the highlights.

Screaming and Cussing

Portsmouth Police started off Saturday the exact same way they did Friday. They responded to a report of a man standing in the parking lot of Buffalo Wild Wings screaming, cussing, and refusing to leave.

It turned out to be the same man they dealt with just after midnight on Friday in the parking lot of Bob & Floyd’s.  In fact, officers respond to reports about his behavior on nearly a daily basis. This time, he agreed to go to the hospital.

Local Businesses Deal with Homeless Blight

Later in the day at 9 pm, police responded to Tracy Park for a report that the same man was trying to fight people in the park. Officers removed 3 needles from him. They took photos and then disposed of them in a sharps container. He made numerous threats towards officers and kept hitting the police cruiser.

Officers said a drug-use induced abscess broke open on the man and began to bleed.

Suspicious Sounds

Just after 1 am, a caller wanted officers to check around an empty home on 6th Street. The caller said there was a buggy full of items left in the side yard and they believed someone might be stealing from the property.

The caller also reported hearing running from the area.

Officers found the front door open. The inside of the home was burnt and the fire damage made it impossible to secure the door. Officers saw no sign that anyone was living inside.

Fishing in the Dark

Police responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle near Spartan Stadium just before 2 am. The people inside said they’d been fishing and had fishing equipment in the car with them.

Offices advised them not to park on the grass near the levy.

Shots Fired?

A caller reported gunshots on Thomas Avenue at 2:34 am. Officers checked the area on foot but found nothing suspicious.

Grand Theft Auto?

A caller informed police just before 3 am that her blue Hyundai was stolen from Waller Street within the previous 5 minutes. The vehicle was described as having Witch, Deadpool, and Hocus Pocus stickers on the back.

The caller admitted she was behind on payment. Police took information for a report.

Meanwhile at Speedway

Police were called to Speedway at 6:30 am for a report of a suspicious guy dressed all in black hanging around the store.

The man had warrants through the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office. Police took him into custody and transported him to the jail

Garbage in the Garage

A woman notified officers just before 8 am of a suspicious person putting bags of garbage into the garage of a vacant home on 6th Street.

Officers gave her the number to the health department.

Car Into House

At 1:05 pm, a vehicle parked at a Gilbert Avenue home rolled down a driveway and into a neighbor’s house.

The vehicle hit a wall and damaged a gas meter. There was also damage to the inside of the home. Columbia gas was notified and came out to take care of the meter.

The owner of the car also had a warrant through New Boston. New Boston PD didn’t have time to come out and serve it. PPD advised the woman to go to New Boston and take care of it.

Man With A Knife

PPD officers rolled to assist New Boston officers on a report with a man with a knife on Gallia. New Boston Police took him into custody.

Police transported him to SOMC for evaluation.

Family Feud

A man called police to a Blue Rock Drive home just before 2 pm to report that his girlfriend’s family was causing a disturbance.

Officers spoke to all involved. It turned out grandparents wanted to take 2 of the 7 children with them. They claimed the boyfriend sat in the house all day in his underwear.

Police did a quick welfare check and forwarded the information to Scioto County Children Services.

Meth on Wheels?

Police responded to a report of a camper parked in front of a known drug house on 6th Street. The caller believed the camper was used to manufacture meth.  Plus said there is chemical smell.

Officers observed no chemical smell.

Stealing A Carport

Turns out it’s true that thieves will steal anything that isn’t nailed down and even some stuff that is. Police responded to a report of thieves taking apart a carport on Auburn Avenue.

Officers said they left items behind at the scene that were impounded.
