Homeless Woman Threatens Save A Lot Employee Over Cart
A homeless woman threatened a Save A Lot employee in an argument over a stolen grocery cart on Sunday morning.
Just after 9 am, the manager of the Save A Lot on Gallia reported a homeless woman took one of their grocery carts and had wheeled it over to the Family Dollar dumpster where she was loading it up with trash.
When an employee attempted to retrieve the cart, the woman threatened them with a jagged object.
When officers arrived at the scene, the woman agreed to return the cart and leave the area.
Lobby Campers Stink Up Post Office
Just after 7 am, PPD officers responded to the Post Office on Gay Street for a report that folks camping out in the lobby were causing an obnoxious odor.
When police arrived, they found two individuals sleeping, and officers had to wake them up. The pair claimed they had permission, but the Postmaster said he would press charges if they continued to camp out in the lobby.
Since the facility is a 24-hour federal building, they present a safety hazard along with the inconvenience and other issues associated with drugs, alcohol, and a strong smell.
The campers collected their belongings and agreed to leave the building.
Suspicious Characters In Abandoned Houses
Officers investigated multiple reports of suspicious characters hanging around abandoned Portsmouth homes.
Just after 8 am on Friday, a report came in about a man messing around a boarded-up home at 7th and Lincoln. Officers discovered the door had been kicked in on a yellow brick home.
Police took a man into custody and discovered someone had put a chair inside and was apparently staying in the home. Officers contacted Code Enforcement to board the house up again.
At 1:30 pm, officers responded to a condemned house on Linden Avenue and found a troubled homeless man whom they’d arrested 85 previous times camping on the porch of a condemned house. Police advised him that he could not stay there.
Officers noted someone had removed the ‘condemned’ signs and contacted Code Enforcement to replace them.
43rd Arrest for Troubled Homeless Woman
A troubled homeless woman who police have nearly daily contact with was arrested again on Saturday after a report of some strange behavior near a local auto repair shop.
Witnesses said the woman was acting strangely and talking to herself on the lot. Officers took the woman into custody for criminal damaging and probation violation and booked her into the Scioto County Jail.
This was her 43rd arrest.
