A man tried to pull the old price-tag switcheroo on multiple Lego sets at Walmart, but store security caught him in the act.
Deputies responded to the South Point store just after noon. A security officer told police she watched Dannie Maynard cut UPC barcodes of less expensive Lego Sets and tape them over the barcodes on larger and more expensive sets.
Security said Walmart stores in West Virginia had caught him pulling this same trick before. A deputy watched the video of Maynard switching tickets before taking him into custody for theft and transporting him to the Lawrence County Jail.
Around 4 pm, officers were back at the store after security cameras caught a man going through the self-checkout, skipping nearly a dozen items in his cart. The man got aggressive when security confronted him, but calmed down when an officer took him into custody and transported him to the Lawrence County Jail.
Another shifty shopper skipped scanning bird food, batteries, food, and some shirts. He told deputies he thought he had scanned all of the items and that he was very sorry. Deputies cited him for shoplifting and released him with a court date.
A woman tried the same tag switching trick by removing the UPS from a small blanket and placing it on a large comforter set as well as switching tags on several items of clothing. All in all, she skipped paying for 17 items at the self-checkout. Officers viewed video of her shopping shenanigans and arrested her for shoplifting.
Another shopper switched prices on multiple planter pots before taking them through the self-checkout. Officers viewed video of him failing to scan items before serving a trespass order from the store. He admitted he was under the influence of meth. Officers confiscated a meth pipe and lighter from him before taking him into custody.
One man didn’t feel the need to even pretend to scan some of his purchases. He just walked through the self-checkout and bagged up items he hadn’t paid for. Officers arrested him after checking out the security video.
