Angry McDermott residents contacted the Sheriff’s Office at 3:30 p.m. to report a driver tearing up the road.
Multiple people reported a man pulling a boat trailer with a black SUV, and they said the trailer was dragging the ground and creating ruts in the street.
Citizens were concerned the boat might be stolen. Deputies located the trailer with the boat parked in a driveway. They noted the trailer had flat tires.
Officers also observed scrapes on the roadway. While officers were investigating, they spotted the black SUV flying down the road at high speed, though the driver slowed down and pulled in behind the fire department when they spotted officers.
By the time officers went to the vehicle, the driver was nowhere to be found. Police learned the tag on the SUV was fake, but the vehicle had not been reported stolen.
Officers said they would keep an eye out for the driver.
