Regina Salisbury, 83

May 20, 1937 - January 27, 2021

Regina Tackett Salisbury was born near Indian Creek, Pike County, Kentucky on May 20, 1937, to Everett and Mollie Tackett, one of five children.  Early in her life, the family migrated to Floyd County, the locale with which she is most closely associated.  In 1957, she married the love of her life, her husband of over sixty years until his passing in 2018, Amos Salisbury. They had four children, starting with Connie Lynn (Lucas) Goble, William David (Laura), Jeffrey Amos (Christine), and Mary Jane (Bill) Freitas. Those children begat five grandchildren; Andrew Lucas, Mollie Rebecca, Raegan Michelle, Jeffrey Lee, and Abigail Rose.

As one who values education and believed firmly in its importance, Regina earned both Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Morehead State University, after which she taught children and managed the Eastern Local School district’s information resources in the library for over 35 years before retiring to the farm that she and Amos bought in 1957 and on which they raised their children and spoiled their grandchildren. She passed on January 27, 2021, having left the world a better place for her efforts.

From 1957 to 1992, Regina served as a teacher, first at Springboro then Stockdale, then teaching business-relevant courses (bookkeeping and typing) at Eastern High School, followed by serving as head librarian for the district. As a teacher, consistent with the disciplines she taught (bookkeeping and typing) she was precise and sometimes strict.  Keyboarding (what was called typing back then) was an important skill to learn (likely more so today) and if one is keeping the books, precision is paramount.  She believed that the best thing she could do for her students is to demand high standards as this would best prepare them for what they would face in adult life.  She worked full time until 1992 but was active as a substitute teacher until 2011.  When she finally did retire completely, she busied herself traveling, reading, doing taxes for people, maintaining the property, bird watching, painting, spoiling grandchildren, and spending time with Dad.
