A strange call about a possible break-in in Wheelersburg took an unexpected turn when deputies arrived—and found something else entirely.
An out-of-town man contacted the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office after getting a call from his brother, who claimed someone had broken into their home and stolen his belongings.
Oddly, the caller’s items weren’t touched.
When deputies went to investigate, they quickly uncovered a different issue—an active warrant for the brother.
Instead of taking a theft report, deputies took him into custody.
Before transporting him to the Scioto County Jail, deputies gathered some of his personal belongings and dropped them off at his mother’s house.
As for the reported break-in?
The man told deputies he did not want to file a report about any missing items.
Records show the warrant stemmed from a previous failure to appear case. He had originally been charged last March, released on his own recognizance, and given a May court date—which he missed.
After being booked into the jail, he appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court, where a sentencing hearing was scheduled for April 2.
This time, the court decided not to take chances—he is being held under bond.
