Portsmouth, Ohio officers investigated a report of a road rage incident involving a gun on Gallia, strange noises on a rooftop, and yet another case of unemployment fraud.  We break down the highlights.

Up On The Rooftop

It’s a little early for Santa to arrive, but just after 1 am, a 5th Street caller heard a noise on her roof that made her think she might have visitors.

Officers arrived just 8 minutes later and saw no sign of reindeer, elves, or anyone else up there.

Screaming At The Super Quik

At 3:30 am, a caller reported a man jumping around and screaming in the parking lot of the Super Quik on Gallia. Police advised the man to leave.

Traffic and Crashes

  • Just before 7 am, a vehicle crashed on top of the Sciotoville Overpass. No one reported injuries.
  • At 7:32 am, a truck spun out on the overpass.  The driver drove into a curb causing a tire to go flat. Fortunately, the owner had a spare and was able to change it.

Suspicious Activity

Harrison Street callers reported a strange man in a brown Carhartt going in and out of people’s yards just after 9 am.  Witnesses saw him run down the alley and again on Bosner.

Identity Theft

Another case of unemployment fraud. A 77-year-old man reported he was contacted about a non-existent unemployment filing just after 11 am.  Police reported the incident to all the appropriate agencies.

At 1:12 pm, a Summit Street caller reported someone attempted to open accounts using his identity.

Hey! That’s My Stuff

An 11th Street caller reported a man stealing a toolbox just before noon. When police caught up to the guy, they discovered he had a mini-fridge he found in the trash.  Police checked to see if it was reported stolen and didn’t find it listed.

The CVS on the Scioto Trail reported shoplifters just after 8:30 pm. The crooks stole makeup off the wall and left in a red Ford Focus. Police took info for a report.

Gun Pulled On Gallia

AT 1:12 am, a delivery driver headed to Aldi reported a road rage incident. He said another driver cussed at him at a red light,  followed him onto the Aldi lot, and pointed a gun at him.

Police tracked the drover down on 6th Street. He denied making threats but admitted he did complain about the victim’s driving. The delivery driver declined to press charges.

Shirtless with a Shotgun?

At 1:15 pm, an 8th Street caller reported a shirtless man standing in his yard swinging a shotgun. When officers arrived, they discovered the man had a BB gun.

Under The Influence

  • Officers responded to a report of a man passed out in a vehicle on 5th street just before 1:30 am. Police discovered there were three active warrants for the man.
  • They issued a summons for possessing a drug abuse instrument and took him into custody on the warrants. A tow truck took the vehicle to the impound lot.

Family Feud

  • Just after 5 pm, officers responded to a report of a mother and son fighting in the street on Vinton. Mom said the son was unruly. The son said his mom was dismissive and kept yelling at him.  Police advised them to stop fighting.
  • Police responded to another domestic incident at the Woodbine Apartments at 7:14 pm. A man and woman were fighting. The man had a warrant. Police took him to jail.
  • An argument over a cigarette led to a fight on 17th street just after 10 pm. Police advised them to calm down.

Lost And Found

Officers came to the rescue of a man who got lost at the BP on Gallia at 7:30 pm. The Adams County dispatcher reported a man was lost. He couldn’t figure out how to get back home. His family members were on the way.  He was in a vehicle at the gas station.

Police checked on him. They said he was confused. Officers waited with the man until family members arrived at 9:13 pm.
