Robert James Wheeler, 91, of Wheelersburg, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, September 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of those closest to him.
Robert was born on November 3, 1934, in Fullerton, Kentucky, to the late William and Anna (Taylor) Wheeler. He proudly served in the United States Air Force before retiring from his military career. Following his service, Robert continued working at the A Plant, where he worked as an electrician and process operator until his retirement.
Robert was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous, an organization that held a special place in his heart. Through his own journey, he found strength, hope, and purpose in helping others. Outside of work and service to others, Robert found great joy in the simple things in life. He loved tending to his garden and flowers, taking pride in watching them grow. He also enjoyed cooking and sharing good food with the people he loved. Above all, Robert cherished his family and the many grandchildren who brought him tremendous joy and whom he loved very much.
Robert is survived by his devoted wife, Tangela Wheeler, who never left his side; sons, Heath Adams of Wheelersburg and Lee (Stephanie) Adams of New Boston; his daughters, Anna Louise Wheeler of Wheelersburg, Alice Wheeler of Wheelersburg, Charlene (Chester) Barnet of Franklin Furnace, Carie Lucas of Portsmouth, and Melissa Howbert of Franklin Furnace; his sister, Phyllis Applegate of Maysville, Kentucky; and his many beloved grandchildren, as well as his nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry, and Alice “Mom” Taylor; brother, Billy Wheeler; sisters, Louise Selby, Evelyn Beverly, and Charlene Shepherd.
Robert will be remembered for his strength, his willingness to help others, his love of family, and the quiet joys he found in his garden, his cooking, and the people he held dear. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Funeral Service will take place Monday, September 21, 2026, 11:00 AM, D.W. Swick & Son Funeral Home in Wheelersburg, Pastor Randy Bratka officiating; interment to follow at Memorial Burial Park, with Military Honors provided by The United States Air Force Honor Guard and American Legion- James Dickey Post 23. Visitation will be Sunday, September 20, 2026, at the Funeral Home, 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service on Monday.
