Rosalie Delores Ratcliff, 86, of Wheelersburg, a longtime Rosemount resident, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at the SOMC Hospice Center. She was born in Portsmouth on March 27, 1937, the daughter of the late Zatto Ernest and Mildred Elizabeth Miller Vastine.
Rosie married Ronald Ratcliff on September 20, 1956, and together they owned and operated The Original Hamburger Inn in Portsmouth for more than 35 years. Ron passed away on June 13, 2011.
A 1955 graduate of Clay High School, Rosie attended The Rock Church and was a former member of Valley United Methodist Church. She had worked with her parents at the former Valley Food Sales and was a former Portsmouth Beauty Supply co-owner. Rosie enjoyed spending time with her family and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events more than anything, but she also reveled in cooking for the family, attending area dances with Ron and hosting family and friends in her home. She was a talented and graceful water skier and could slalom ski better than most. Rosie also enjoyed walking and raising her beloved dogs over the years.
Surviving are her daughters, Sheryl (John) Boggs of Roanoke, VA, and Cindy (Rick) Clark of Wheelersburg ; her brother, Ronnie (Jean) Vastine of Portsmouth; sisters-in-law, Jody Ratcliff Diaz of Waverly, Peggy Vastine of Wheelersburg, Elaine Euton of Huntersville, NC, and Lorraine Tomlin of Wheelersburg; four grandchildren, Abby (Cullen) Reed, Annie (Chad) Roffe, Ben (Hannah) Boggs, and Sarah (Alex) Davis; seven great-grandchildren, Katie Bishop, Emma Roffe, Chessa and Milly Reed, Lucy Boggs, and Callie and Breylon Davis; and several nieces, nephews and their families.
Her siblings, Ernest “Ernie” James Vastine and Pat (Herb) Zellar; a nephew, Tony Diaz; and her fur baby, Missy, also preceded Rosalie in death.
Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Pastor Rick Clark officiating and interment in Rosemount Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from noon until the funeral hour.
