Quick-Thinking Kid Snaps Photo of Bold Daylight Theft in South Point
They thought it would be an easy grab. Two brazen thieves pulled into a family’s driveway on County Road 15 in broad daylight and helped themselves to a generator sitting by the garage. But they didn’t count on a sharp-eyed schoolgirl with nerves of steel and a smartphone.
According to Cpl. S. Orsbon and another responding deputy, the culprits were spotted by the homeowners’ daughter, just moments after getting off the school bus. As the crooks loaded the heavy equipment into their vehicle, one of them barked at her to “go back inside.”
But this young hero wasn’t about to be intimidated. Instead, she snapped a photo of the suspects and their vehicle, capturing vital details that later matched security footage pulled from the family’s home cameras.
And karma? It came quick. As the thieves attempted to make a slick getaway in their gray Ford Escape, the hatch popped open and the stolen generator tumbled into the middle of the road. The duo had to stop, sheepishly reload it, and drive off again—this time, under the watchful eye of multiple cameras and a heroic witness.

Deputies praised the girl’s quick thinking, bravery, and attention to detail. Her description of the suspects—right down to the cowboy boots and hoodies—lined up perfectly with the video footage. Though the license plate wasn’t visible, the video and photo will be key evidence in tracking the pair down.
