Storm season is almost here, but fortunately, Scioto County EMA is ready. The National Weather Service had declared the agency ‘StormReady’ as part of a program to help communities develop plans for severe weather emergencies.
To qualify for the StormReady certification, communities must:
- Establish a 24-hour warning point and emergency operations center
- Have more than one way to receive severe weather warnings and forecasts and to alert the public
- Create a system that monitors weather conditions locally
- Promote the importance of public readiness through community seminars
Back in 2002, Scioto County was one of the first counties in Ohio to receive the designation. Scioto County EMA Director Larry Mullins said, “The StormReady designation renewal was made possible by the hard work of Scioto EMA Deputy Director, Bill Lynn, who was in charge of the project.”
