Officers arrested a Lucasville mom for a shocking incident of child abuse. Witnesses told investigators from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office she put a baby in a chokehold until it became unresponsive, then left it in a ditch. But that’s not all officers said 39-year-old Mary Beth Carver did to her children.
It all started on Saturday night, a Greenbrier Road man called 911 to report a woman had busted out his window. He said she was bleeding and had three small children with her. Moments later, a second call came in. The caller reported a woman with three naked children standing in his yard. He said the children were naked and covered in blood.
The Sheriff’s Office dispatched deputies and an ambulance to the location. Deputies spotted a woman covered in blood when they got there. According to the official report, she was combative. Deputies said she appeared to be under the influence of drugs. EMTs treated her at the scene.
Children Naked and Covered In Blood
Two small children with her were naked and covered in blood. But it only got worse. Deputies spotted an infant lying in a ditch. The baby was unresponsive.
Ambulances transported the mother and two oldest children to Southern Ohio Medical Center for treatment. An air ambulance transported the baby to Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington. The children were later taken to Cabell Huntington for observation. Ms. Carver was transferred to Grant Hospital, then treated and released.
The baby is still hospitalized but the older children were released into the custody of Scioto County Children Services.
Outstanding Warrant
Witnesses told investigators the Carver held the baby in a chokehold until it became unresponsive. Detectives determined that Carver went to a Chillicothe Ohio residence after her hospital release. Detective Jodi Conkel forwarded this information to the Ross County Sheriff’s Office. Ross County Deputies located Carver and took her into custody. Officers transported Ms. Carver to Scioto County. Deputies served Carver with a warrant for child endangerment and arrested. There’s also an outstanding warrant against Carver for child endangering in Pike County.
Carver appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court this morning and is currently held without bond in the Scioto County Jail. Sheriff Marty Donini said the investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information should contact Detective Jodi Conkel at 740-351-1091
