Shirley Mae Miller, age 87, of Otway, surrounded by love and family, went home to be with the Lord on October 22, 2025.
Shirley was born in Otway, Ohio on February 8, 1938 to Harland A. Ross and step-mother Roxie A. (Ewing) Ross.
She married the wonderful Paul Miller, in 1962, and together they shared 45 wonderful years before his passing in 2007. Shirley was preceded in death by her father Harland Ross (1994) and brother, Acie Ross (2021). Shirley was a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose kindness and laughter left a lasting impression and brought comfort to those who knew her.
She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory- Her three daughters, Paula “Sis” (Doug) Arde, Rachel (George) Meyer, and Ruth (Jeff) Ross. Her four grandchildren, Nikki (Geoffrey) Arde/Pinski, Beth Arde, JoAnna (Zach) Evans, and Jon Ross. And her one great-granddaughter, Ella Jean Evans. Each of them carry a piece of her heart and the lessons she so gracefully taught.
Shirley had a remarkable gift for making things beautiful. With a thread and needle she created everything from clothing to delicate embroidery that told stories of love. Her green thumb reflected her patience and care as she could bring any plant to life. She was an incredible cook whose recipes will forever be cherished by her loved ones.
Shirley’s family invites friends to celebrate Shirley’s life on Monday October 27, 2025 from 11:00am-1:00pm at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home, 6500 State Route 348 Otway OH, 45657. Funeral will follow at 1:00 pm with burial in the Old Hoffer Hill Baptist Church Cemetery . All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the funeral home or to Hospice of Hope Ohio Valley.
